Happy February Everyone!! In one way, January has gone by really fast and I can’t believe that the first month of 2020 is over. But in another way, it feels like January has taken its time and nothing interesting has really happened. That’s most likely because I haven’t really done anything this month except binge Netflix and YouTube videos. Hopefully, February is more action-packed and I’m able to be more productive. I’m sure it will be because we have many things planned.
Anyway, today’s blog post is going to be relatively short and I’m writing it in the hope that Fiji wins the Sydney 7s Tournament this weekend. For those of you who don’t really know anything about Fiji, rugby is a very important sport and it is something that brings everyone together. When watching a 7s tournament most of the teams would have small fan bases from their respective countries. The Fiji team, on the other hand, have a whole country rooting for them. I find that they’re lucky to have such a huge support group but at the same time, it can be extremely stressful for them.
I’m not a crazy fan and maybe I don’t watch every single game in a tournament. But one thing I do appreciate is their love for Weet-bix. Weet-bix is a common breakfast cereal on this side of the world and it comes with the famous slogan ‘Breakfast for Champions’. And to be honest, I do feel like a champion after my daily serve of weet-bix. To celebrate Fiji’s win, I thought I would share the blurb written on the back of the weet-bix box that most people wouldn’t bother reading. The short extract makes everyone feel proud of their country and proud of the team. Congratulations to the team on their success and hopefully there will be many more wins to come!
Rugby, it’s the beating heart of Fiji. From village fields to lounge rooms, from the highlands to pristine coastlines and islands, it’s the pulse that beats through the streets as the ball flows from hand to hand and the laughter of village games or cheers of victory on the screen echo through the air. It’s the game that unites our great nation.
The dream of pulling on The White Jersey burns like a fire in every Fijian soul. Hopes and dreams that fuel grueling steps up sand dunes and hours of practice in pursuit of that precious chance to step onto field for Fiji.
Our heroes humbly wear the jersey putting their body on the line for God, Nation and Family, cherishing the honour with all their heart because in Fiji, Rugby is life.
